13. srečanje kluba alumnov Oddelka za lesarstvo BF UL 13th annual meeting of the alumni club of the Department of Wood Science and Technology BF UL

Udeleženci so v okviru konferenčnega dela poročali o novostih in dogajanjih v zadnjem letu.

Tudi nji- hovo srečanje so v letu 2020 zaradi pandemije organizirali preko ZOOMa.

S pogovori smo osvežili stike, kar ohranja skupnost živo in aktivno.

Mateju Joštu in dr.

Alumni of the Department of Wood Science and Technology of the Biotechnical Faculty, Univer- sity of Ljubljana (OL BF UL) gathered on November 26, 2020 at the 13th traditional annual meeting.

This was also the first online alumni meeting, due to the pandemic. The meeting was attended by more than 45 participants of all generations. The program included a formal part, with short pres- entations, as well as an informal part.

The participants reported on the most impor- tant news. Katarina Čufar and Boštjan Lesar, the leaders of the alumni, presented the lively activi- ties of the club within the University of Ljubljana, which has a professional platform https://alumniul.

online/ through which all those who have complet- ed their studies at the University can join. It is or- ganized into sections, and ours is called “BF - Klub alumnov lesarstva“, and is supported and supple- mented by the ALUMNI club section of the profes- sional association “Društvo lesarjev Slovenije” (DSL) http://www.ditles.si/. In 2020, the management of DSL was taken over by Mag. Tomaž Kušar, a staff member of the Department of Wood Science, who presented details of the activities of the association.

New developments at the Department of Wood Science were presented by Prof. Dr. Marko Petrič, the current vice-dean elected for the pe- riod 1.10.2020 to 30.9.2022. Many alumni know Marko Petrič as an excellent professor and scien- tist, who also led the department in the period 1.10.2004 - 30.9.2010.

The alumni of the generation 1985-1990, cel- ebrating the 30th anniversary of graduation, were presented by Mag. Majda Kanop, the principal of the Secondary Carpenter School in Ljubljana, who helped educate many alumni who successfully con- tinued and completed their studies at the OL BF.

She reminded us that in 1985 about 60 students enrolled in the university study of Wood Science and Technology, and 27 of them successfully grad- uated. Today, 13 of them work in the Wood Science and Technology sector, three in education, and 11

in other fields (inspectorates, tourism, ministries, municipalities, and private enterprises). The gen- eration has remained connected and meets almost every year, each time in a different region of Slove- nia, although their 2020 meeting was also organ- ized as a video conference.

Robert Gomišček presented the Ypsi chair from the Linea-R d.o.o. He also introduced a collection of innovative and aesthetic products, taking us from the initial idea to the final product ready for pres- entation on the market.

The informal part was a meeting of stakehold- ers in virtual breakout rooms. The participants were first divided into groups, but afterwards they could move between them. These small groups provided an environment for lively discussions about the past, present, and future of alumni, and of Wood Science and Technology, the challenges of studying, teaching and business during the pan- demic, as well as other issues. We thus refreshed many of our personal links, which help to keep the community alive and active.

Virtual socializing in groups showed that even video meetings can be interesting. The event was organized by the staff of the Department of Wood Science and Technology in cooperation with “Društ- vo lesarjev Slovenije”. In addition to the above-men- tioned colleagues, we especially thank Dr. Matej Jošt and Dr. Jože Kropivšek for their excellent tech- nical support of the video conference. Thanks also to Dr. Davor Kržišnik for his tireless support in all phases of the organization and implementation, and of course to all participants in the meeting. We thank the professional advisors Dr. Tanja Potočnik Mesarić from the Biotechnical Faculty (BF), as well as Barbara Baraga and Tina Malenšek Kojić from the University of Ljubljana for their constant sup- port with the activities of alumni club.

We all hope to meet again live very soon.
