Urbani izziv/Urban Challenge 1989–2009 (Part 2)

In the twenty years of its existence, the journal Urbani izziv/Urban Challenge has become a leading Slovenian periodical publication in the dissemination of scientific and professional knowledge and the treatment of the problems relating to spatial planning and management in Slovenia and abroad. During this period, 325 differ- ent authors have participated with contributions to the journal. It has published nearly 500 scientific and professional articles in the form of thematic articles or articles in sections such as Reflections, Echoes, Methods and techniques and Spatial- informatics. An additional 250 contributions were published in the form of presen- tations, reviews, reports, information and interviews. For each of the 35 issues, the thematic editorials were written and the thematic covers were designed. Especially with respect to the thematic covers, which give the journal a special reputation as they also have special artistic merit.

In these twenty years, the journal Urbani izziv/Urban Challenge has become in- ternationally recognizable, as from 1993, the texts of the journal have also been published in the English language. Bilinguals were originally published summaries of thematic articles, but since 1997 all thematic articles have been fully bilingual, other contributions have had bilingual summaries. With this issue of the Urbani izziv/Urban Challenge has now become a fully bilingual journal.

On the twentieth anniversary the journal is facing new challenges. Our goal is to contribute in the future with high quality articles, in order to enhance and to de- velop the sciences and the profession at the highest level and so confirm upon the international field, the depth and value of the journal itself. This issue confirms that we are on the right path in achieving this goal.

As we stated in the previous issue, after two decades the Urbani izziv/Urban Chal- lenge ceased to publish thematically oriented issues, which means that from now on in each issue the contributions regarding different ‘spatial’ themes are now published.

On the 20th anniversary of this publication a list of thematic editions for the first decade were published in the previous issue, but in this issue a review of the thematic issues of the second decade are published.
